Garry The Drummer

Post Pic

When he’s not working with his own band there’s nothing Garry likes better than putting his drums in the car and going off to play with another band. Being a first class sight reader and very experienced in all styles of music, he can fit in to almost any musical situation. He is very often asked at short notice to deputize for another drummer who is suddenly not available for whatever reason and enjoys the musical challenge that this brings. Over the last few years he has worked with a vast range of musical styles from Orchestral , Latin , Dixieland / Traditional Jazz, Organ Trio,  Modern / Mainstream Jazz Groups, Function Bands, Vocal Groups and Big Swing Bands.  He has also done several recording sessions in local studios.

On the 18th November 2009 Garry was the Special Guest  with Sticky Wickets Swing Orchestra at the Stables, Wavendon,  Milton Keynes. This concert was to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of American ‘Drumming Legend’  Gene Krupa and was filmed by the BBC.

Below are two excerpts from this concert, the first video is Garry playing alongside Sticky Wicket in The Hawaiian War Chant and the second shows Garry giving John Bly from the Antiques Roadshow a 'lesson' on drums, .

During 2010, Garry was very pleased to be asked to work in the Trio that accompanied  American ‘Rat Pack’ Star Buddy Greco  and his vocalist wife Lesley Anders who sings the songs of Peggy Lee, on their National Theatre Tour.

He also works with Dave Alacey’s  very popular  Frank, Dean and Sammy show ‘The Rat Pack is Back’

Once a month he powers along The Southside Big Band with vocalist Jim McAllister at the Stadium in Kings Heath, Birmingham. This band is run by Alto Saxophone player Norman  ‘Phil’ Phillips and Garry also plays in his Jazz Quintet.

Garry says “Musical variety is the spice of musical life “….You can say that again ?

More than just a bandleader
