Welcome to the Garry Allcock website
Garry got his passion for music when in his early teens by listening to the great Swing Bands of the time on the radio, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Harry James , Buddy Rich, Ted Heath, Johnny Dankworth, Eric Delaney, Vic Lewis, etc.
At a much earlier time he could be heard hitting some old tin cans with two pieces of wood at the bottom of this mum and dad’s garden.
Well, here we are many decades later and he’s still playing with two pieces of wood on his drum set , but hopefully making great music with his ‘top class’ band.
The Band is now established as one of the most successful in the UK. Constantly in demand to entertain at top functions, dances, conferences and concerts. Garry spent a period standing out in front of the band to direct proceedings but really missed being behind his drum set and swinging the band along. So now we have Garry playing the drums and Paul Drakeley directing the band from the front.
Garry says “Paul is a super young man who has helped enormously and now allows me to concentrate on my own playing. He contributes a great deal to the band’s appeal as an excellent vocalist, trombonist and musical director. I hope that he will keep the All Stars Band going for another 35 years!
